IMPORTANT NOTICE: MAY 16 FRONT PARLOR IS POSTPONED!!!

TROY FRONT PARLOR WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, MAY 23rd at the Ale House. See details below.

Front Parlor is a place to tell, and listen to other people tell, five minute stories around a designated theme. True stories, no notes. It’s kind of like The Moth radio hour, which has become pretty popular on public radio and in cities around the country. In our region, we have three local Front Parlor events each month with some pretty talented storytellers. First-time storytellers and veterans alike get lots of love from the audience. Or, just come and listen.

NOTE: Date change for Troy’s Front Parlor! Scheduling conflicts at the Ale House require that we hold Troy’s Front Parlor the third Tuesday of the month, so we’ll see you on Tuesday, May 16.

Hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk
7:30 – 9:30 pm
Quackenbush Square
683 Broadway

Theme: “Can’t Get Enough”
This month is about excess and/or insufficiency. How do you know when enough is enough? Sometimes it takes getting to too much to realize maybe you should have stopped long ago. Or maybe you literally couldn’t get enough. That’s a tough spot too. Either way, bring those stories to the Olde English Pub

Tuesday, May 23 @ The Ale House in Troy
Hosted by Zan Strumfeld
7:30 – 9:30 pm
680 River Street
Troy, New York 12180

Theme: “Long distance”
Have distance and the inevitable laws of time and space kept you separated from a loved one? Did hearts grow fonder, or did passions subside? When work and home take us in different directions, does “calling it in” suffice? Come and share your tales of grappling with the desire to remain connected to the things that are important when circumstances find you far away.

Tuesday, May 16 Two Brews, Bennington, VT
Hosted by Forest Byrd
7:00 – 9:30 pm
Story Night at Two Brews
230 North Street
Bennington, Vermont 05201
Doors open at 7, Stories start at 7:30 Come early for a place to sit.

Theme: “Refuge”
It’s the shelter from the storm. It’s a place far from the bullies in our lives or too much noise. It’s when warmth under the covers is the only thing that is appealing. Maybe it’s the kind words of a friend or your mom. When have you sought a safe space? How have you found one? Or have you led others to one? Come tell a story about it.

Share widely.

If you’d like to throw your name in the can to tell a story, and you know you’ll be a little late, post a comment here.

See you ’round the mic. And as always… Listening is an act of love.
