Front Parlor is a place to tell, and listen to other people tell, five minute stories around a designated theme. True stories, no notes. It’s kind of like The Moth radio hour, which has become pretty popular on public radio and in cities around the country. In our region, we have three local Front Parlor events each month with some pretty talented storytellers. First-time storytellers and veterans alike get lots of love from the audience. Or, just come and listen.

Tuesday, June 13 @ The Ale House in Troy
Hosted by Dan Lyles
7:30 – 9:30 pm
680 River Street
Troy, New York 12180

Theme: “Karma
Come and share your stories of cosmic justice or injustice. Did you do something and it came back to haunt you? Did an act of random kindness change your life? Or maybe you think Karma plays no role; that the world is a beautiful and terrible mess of randomness or that things just happen when they are supposed to happen regardless of what we do. Please come and share your stories !

Monday, June 19 @ the Olde English Pub in Albany

Hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk
7:30 – 9:30 pm
Quackenbush Square
683 Broadway
Albany, New York 12207

Theme: “Great Expectations”

How many times have we told ourselves (or others) “I can’t wait! This is going to be awesome!”? We get so excited for the possibilities. And sometimes everything happens just like we thought. But other times, not so much…

Bring a story that starts with those great expectations to the Albany Front Parlor at the Olde English Pub. Monday June 19 at 7:30.

Tuesday, June 20 Two Brews, Bennington, VT
Hosted by Forest Byrd
7:00 – 9:30 pm
Story Night at Two Brews
230 North Street
Bennington, Vermont 05201
Doors open at 7, Stories start at 7:30 Come early for a place to sit.

Theme: “Sticky Situations”

How are you going to get out of this one? Whether it’s a deal gone wrong or someone going off the edge. Maybe it’s less glamorous; like, actually something quite sticky, like eating an ice cream cone in the summer sun. Tell a real story of how you dealt with your sticky situation and lived to tell about it.

Share widely.

If you’d like to throw your name in the can to tell a story, and you know you’ll be a little late, post a comment here.

See you ’round the mic. And as always… Listening is an act of love.
