Front Parlor is a place to tell, and listen to other people tell, five minute stories around a designated theme. True stories, no notes. It’s kind of like The Moth radio hour, which has become pretty popular on public radio and in cities around the country. In our region, we have three local Front Parlor events each month with some pretty talented storytellers. First-time storytellers and veterans alike get lots of love from the audience. Or, just come and listen.

Tuesday, August 8 @ The Ale House in Troy

Hosted by Zan Strumfeld
7:30 – 9:30 pm
680 River Street
Troy, New York 12180

Theme: “Irrational Fears”

When we were little, somebody told us there was a boogie man in the closet and monsters under the bed. As we grow older, scary things happen to those around us, and we fear the same things happening to us. Turn on the nightly news: talking heads trafficking in fear. But what about the fears we create in our minds? Can you catch mental illness? Will the pimple on your face explode all over the person you like? Will there actually be a zombie apocalypse? Let’s talk about fears — the irrational ones. From childhood, from this morning, it’s time to share what keeps you up at night.

Monday, August 21 @ the Olde English Pub in Albany

Hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk
7:30 – 9:30 pm
Quackenbush Square
683 Broadway
Albany, New York 12207

Theme: “The Writing on the Wall”

The signs are generally there if we pay attention. So what keeps us from paying attention? And what is it that allows us to finally see? Looking back it will seem obvious, so take us back and let us know what you were thinking and what caused you to see the writing on the wall; or what clouded your vision so you couldn’t see it.

Bring a story to the Albany Front Parlor at the Olde English Pub. Monday August 21 at 7:30.
